Abe San Japanese Resto at Brgy. Malinta, Valenzuela City

A few months ago, a dining place caught the attention of One Valenzuela as she and a handful of students traversed Gov. I. Santiago Road in their school service on the way to the National Library. It read "Abe San". From there, she took a mental note that she will visit it in the future.

This Good Friday, One Valenzuela went for a joy ride in the city together with hubby and Little One Valenzuela. After stopping by Pasolo Maternity and Medical Clinic, they then went to  Abe San.

Luckily, Abe San was open. It has a wide open space for parking vehicles. By observation, the place can accommodate a small group of people and she somewhat wished it was a bit cooler especially now that we're in the middle of summer. But after being greeted with a warm smile by Mr. Abe (he even took their motorcycle helmets and placed them neatly at the side of the table), One Valenzuela knew that they are in for a treat.

Abe San Japanese Resto
Kawaii paper lanterns!
The Japanese restaurant was opened five months ago by Mr. Abe and his Filipino wife. Mr. Abe cooks the food for diners. You would not mind the modesty of the place knowing that your sashimi shall be prepared by a real Japanese. This scenario reminded One Valenzuela of Suzuki Japanese Carinderia in Tondo, Manila

You'll find the following in Abe San's printed menu: tonkatsu, gyudon, oyakodon, katsudon, burger steak, fish fry, gyoza, koroke, omurice, tonteki, teriyaki (pork and chicken), tempura, ika ring, french fries, oden, sashimi, and sushi. Most of them are in the 35 to 60 pesos price range. Only the ika rings, tempura, and sashimi are in the Php100-150 bracket.

Got no idea of what you will get? Look at Abe San's walls
Asking for their bestsellers, Mrs. Abe suggested something which was not on the menu. "Try our ramen.", she said. After a while, the group settled for two bowls of ramen (Php120 per serving), a plate of gyoza (Php35), tamago (Php70), and two bottles of ice cold soft drinks.

Abe San's Ramen (Php120.00)
Tamago (Php70.00)
Mrs. Abe said that one can also order a set of this at Php380.00.
The ramen's soup was really good! Ang sarap! One Valenzuela definitely enjoyed the ramen. The gyoza is satisfactory. Hubby loved the tamago, especially its sticky rice.

There's a reason to go back here since Mr. Abe's wife recommended One Valenzuela to try out another type of ramen. This and the other food listed on the menu made her look forward into visiting Abe San on another occasion. Before the group got on the motorcycle, Mr. Abe said "Salamat!".

You are welcome. Until our next visit!

Kingpin Bowling and Gaming Center at Malinta, Valenzuela City

The whole bunch had their early breakfast at Jollibee Malinta and later on decided to go up Felisa Building. One Valenzuela's acquaintances told her that there is an existing open air bowling center at the third floor. The place was closed when they went there (it's a bit early!) but she was able to take some photos from the outside of the establishment.

Kingpin Bowling & Gaming Center is located at
3/F Felisa Building, Gov. I. Santiago Road, Malinta, Valenzuela City.

Kingpin Bowling and Gaming Center bowling rate posted outside.
Will have to come back some other day to knock down some pins. :)

The recent typhoon, Maring, and habagat have been very trying. Such trials bring out the best and worst among people.

Good thing, One Valenzuela has seen many Valenzuelanos staying positive all the way. Stay safe and dry, fellow Valenzuelanos.

Colette's Buko Pie in Malinta, Valenzuela City

One Valenzuela verified it from Colette's website if they do have a branch that sells their famous buko pie in Valenzuela City. And yep, they have a branch in Malinta!

Colette's can be seen at Gov. Santiago Road in Brgy. Malinta, Valenzuela City. Nearby landmarks: 7-Eleven and Jollibee Malinta along McArthur Hiway.

Hi, buko pie!

Got a box of buko pie for Php170
Mmm, now when One Valenzuela goes to Tagaytay again, she will not be so tired of carrying buko pies for pasalubong. She will buy her boxes of pies here from now on.

Kalborger's Duper Chicken: One Valenzuela’s HUGE Burger Experience

One Valenzuela has been wondering for quite a long while where she can buy a HUGE burger. As in one BIIIG burger!

While she was browsing YouTube  she found this amusing video entitled “Pinakamasarap na burger sa buong mundo ang Kalborger!”. The branch that they featured there is situated in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. Now, that got One Valenzuela thinking: Do we have a Kalborger’s Branch in Valenzuela City?

Searching for Kalborger's via Facebook, One Valenzuela found Kalborger’s page. After sending a short inquiry on where she can find the nearest branch, Kalborger’s replied:

“Our first and main branch was located in Concepcion, Malabon po but last December 2012 we decided to transfer to a bigger place for expansion. Our commissary and office is now located in Mapulang Lupa, Valenzuela City. We have 3 existing branches in Valenzuela City: (1) Gen. T. De Leon branch which is located beside Iglesia ni Cristo; (2) Malanday branch which is located along McArthur Hi-way beside Meralco; and (3) Malinta Branch which is located near Malinta Market, beside Mightee Mart.

Whatda!?! There is a branch nearby!

After a few days, off she went with Little One Valenzuela at Kalborger’s Malinta Branch. A long and demanding day at work was over. Lifting books here and there! A 9 inch burger is literally a big reward!

Kalborger's Malinta Branch
There are basically two types of home made burgers at Kalborger’s: beef and chicken. They have three sizes: the regular size, super size (5 inches), and the duper size (9 inches). Prices vary from Php35 to Php150.

One Valenzuela ordered a Chicken Duper at Php150. The patty was very juicy and quite thick. Unlike the typical dressing of mayonnaise and catsup, Kalborger’s uses mayonnaise and mustard. Lots of fresh tomatoes and cabbage are placed inside the soft bun. Love the cheese!

One Valenzuela's Chicken Duper (9 inches) vs. the Beef Super (5 inches)

By the way, One Valenzuela requested that ¼ of the burger be without veggies since Little One Valenzuela is still not that into tomatoes and cabbage (One Valenzuela now murmuring a silent prayer: Hoping that, someday, Little One Valenzuela would eat lots of veggies!)

Dressing: mayo and mustard
Slice that huge burger, please!?!
Little One Valenzuela said “Sarap!” on her first bite. One Valenzuela just had two slices and she was already full. They had some cold Pepsi and Mountain Dew soft drinks as their panulak.

Sarap!
While eating, One Valenzuela observed that most of the customers that go to Kalborger's Malinta Branch get their burgers for take-out. Some order beef burgers, while some have chicken burgers. Most of them had the Super size (5 inches).

Kalborger's Regular sized burger vs. the Duper (9 inches)
Just out of curiosity, One Valenzuela asked when did this particular branch open. The staff answered that the branch is about to reach seven months.

Since the tandem cannot finish the whole Chicken Duper, they had the other half for take-out as pasalubong for hubby.

HUGE burger experience has already been crossed off the “To Try” list. The next week, look at what surprise One Valenzuela made for her co-employee:

A Kalborger's burger cake! Why not!?!
Happy, happy birthday!
After the 5th Fun Fishing Tournament at Kap. Larry's Pond in Coloong, One Valenzuela's group also did a quick stop at Kalborger's Malanday Branch:

Best shared with a wacky group
Kalborger's gives a unique burger experience na babalik-balikan (which was pretty obvious, after eating at Kalborger's thrice!). Sa uulitin!

How to reach Kalborger's Malinta Branch:

From Malinta, McArthur Hiway, just walk along Gov. I. Santiago Road.

Landmarks: Petron, 7-Eleven and Jollibee
