Mang Delfin's Putong Polo: Pinagsamang Sarap ng Polo at Malabon

Putong Polo has always been dear to One Valenzuela's heart. During her childhood days, a brown paper bag brought home by her nanay (mother) from Karuhatan market would signal that she and her siblings are in for a treat of bite size kutsinta and puto. You dip one of these in some freshly grated coconut before popping a piece in your mouth. Yay, such happy thoughts to fill one's mind.

Thus, One Valenzuela was absolutely delighted to see a new food booth  selling these popular and yummy delicacies at the South Supermarket Food Court. Mang Delfin's Putong Polo offers various kakanin together with their own version of Malabon's famous pancit. She has heard of Mang Delfin's through some of her friends residing in Polo and so she did not hesitate even for a second to go and visit the booth.

Mr. Delfin Gutierrez (in red apron) was cooking palabok when One Valenzuela dropped by their store. He is accompanied by Sir Chris. 

"Gusto namin na one stop shop siya." friendly Mang Delfin discussed. And that is a good thing. Order some puto and kutsinta. Add to that some pancit and you now have your afternoon snack. You can even bring these yummy food home or at your workplace for a hassle free merienda with family and friends.  

One can buy Mang Delfin's puto and kutsinta from 10 to 50 pieces. They still have those brown paper bags which make One Valenzuela a bit nostalgic. Alternatively, they also have boxes that transform the humble kakanin to delicious gifts. 

Hot off the pan: Mang Delfin's Pancit Malabon. Their solo size (good for 1 person) starts at Php65.00. One can also order pancit in a bilao for sharing (from 5 persons upto 25 persons, depending on the size). 

Craving for some sapin-sapin? Bring home a box for Php130.00. 

Other than Putong Polo and Pancit Malabon, Mang Delfin's also offers sapin-sapin, pichi-pichi, sweet beans in big and small bottles (beans, garbansos, macapuno, nata de coco), leche flan, and halayang ube.

Ree Chichie Special Cassava Cake Valenzuela Branch

Many cassava cake stores have opened in most cities (if not all) in Metro Manila and so it is now easier to grab a box or two. One Valenzuela and her pack had a chance to taste Ree Chichie's special cassava cake this weekend. The cassava cake that you get from the store is baked fresh daily and so expect that it is still hot when boxed. It is not too sweet and is best served with some coffee.

Hot and yummy cassava cake! Ree Chichie also has langka and macapuno flavors which are just Php10-20 pesos higher than the original.

Malabon Pancit Festival at SM Center Valenzuela: Bringing the Festivities to the City

Being a community mall, SM Center Valenzuela comes up with activities which involve the people. Among their programs in line for Valenzuelanos is bringing the festivities from other places to the mall so that Valenzuelanos and other shoppers can have the fiesta experience without going outside the city.

Malabon Pancit Festival in SM Center Valenzuela

Malabon, Valenzuela’s neighbor city, is holding the Luglugan Festival every December 4-8 under the Sanggunian Resolution A64-2004. Highlighted here is the popular Pancit Malabon which has the city’s namesake. In cooperation with AKLAT Foundation, Malabon City LGU, and Valenzuela City LGU, SM Center Valenzuela is bringing the pancit festival to the city! Just this Sunday, December 7, One Valenzuela was glad to be invited to witness the opening of the Malabon Pancit Festival at the Events Center of SM Valenzuela.

Emma’s Pancit Malabon, MFlores Pancit Malabon, MilFlores Pitchy-Pitchy, Ellet’s Sweet, and Hazel’s Puto form the group of exhibitors which caters to the hungry Valenzuelano. Here you can sample their pancit, buy jars of garbanzos, nata de coco, and halo-halo mix, or sink your teeth on a puto pao and other native delicacies.

Malabon Councilor Sonia Lim, Malabon Vice Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, Malabon Councilor Nadja Marie Vicencio, SM Center Valenzuela Mall Manager Ms. Jacqueline Tan, Valenzuela Councilor Charee Pineda, and former Malabon Councilor Ian Emmanuel Borja were present at the opening of the Malabon Pancit Festival. 

Tanghalang Bagong Sibol of Malabon National High School performed a dance routine in front of the crowd. The group came here with their Associate Director, Mr. Anthony Cruz.

Hopping from one booth to another, One Valenzuela would say that you should have some pansit from MFlores Pancit Malabon. For only Php75.00, you can already dig in on a plateful of their well known pansit which was highly praised by Tonipet Gaba on his blog, Side B.ph. It was also featured at Unang Hirit and Poptalk (receiving 9 Pop Points!). Their long quekiam tastes good too  and is priced at only Php29.00 a piece. One Valenzuela wants a cup of rice with this. Sarap i-ulam.

The event which was supposedly scheduled for three consecutive days since Sunday was rescheduled in preparation to Typhoon Ruby. Discussing the said calamity with Ms. Joanna and Ms. Lorie of SM Center Valenzuela, One Valenzuela learned that the Events Center becomes an evacuation center to Valenzuelanos in situations like this one. “Unahin po natin ang mga tao, ” Ms. Joanna said.

McDonald's South Supermarket Branch is now open!

The long wait is finally over! The McDonald's South Supermarket branch located in Barangay Karuhatan has re-opened today, September 26, boasting a new look. If you have been following this blog, a write up was posted on how this particular McDonald's branch was sorely missed by many.

The new interiors of McDonald's is both modern and very welcoming. Good thing, the Playplace is still there since a lot of kids love that area. The branch now has a dedicated space for parties. Lastly, the take out counter is a new addition. So if you are in a hurry, you may now avoid the long lines inside, making it easier for you to buy meals and snacks on the go.

The  McDonald's crew were selling tickets when One Valenzuela went there today. You will get a chicken meal and umbrella for each ticket which costs Php150. See how many people went there today? Ang dami!(Translation: So many!)

One Valenzuela Food Trip: Jhun Native Lechon on the Table

One Valenzuela thinks that many Valenzuelanos would agree that having a lechon in an event makes it even more special. By Filipino tradition, it is commonly believed that a delicious roasted pig is the star of a joyous celebration's feast.  

Here's the lechon still warm and all wrapped up. 

The roasted pig shown above is from Jhun's and it costs Php5,700 (25 kilos of lechon goodness!). It comes with free dinuguan and sarsa (lechon sauce). Hubby asked Jhun's to chop it already since Max's cuts the lechon in their kitchen and already serves the pieces in plates (Note: Max's has a corkage fee of Php500 for lechon). Seeing a whole lechon on a table is better. Other than the "Whoa, may lechon!" factor, you also get to choose what part you want to eat.

An invited friend told One Valenzuela that the lechon meat was really tasty. And with the overflowing good food by Max's, One Valenzuela was even able to bring home some lechon which she cooked with pepper, sugar, and Mang Tomas. Guests also took some pabalot too in several plastic bags. Yey, lechon paksiw for everyone!

Just want to end your lechon craving and do not need a whole one? You can visit Jhun's at South Supermarket Valenzuela. Their stall offers lechon, lechon paksiw, and dinuguan together with hot rice.

Never thought that the McDonald's Valenzuela South Supermarket branch shall be sorely missed. One Valenzuela has been hearing so many silent wishes from friends such as "Kakamiss yung french fries ng Mcdo..." and "Kailan kaya ulit magbubukas ang Mcdo sa South?". 

Sooner po please! ^_^

One Valenzuela has noticed that construction has begun. The tarpaulin above is just among the few signages that tell that the long wait is almost over. For the mean time, satisfy your McDonald's cravings at Robinsons Beehive Mall(Gen. T. De Leon-Santolan Road), SM Valenzuela, and at Puregold Paso de Blas (Malinta Exit).

Out for Lunch at Little Beijing Chinese Cuisine

Armed with a stash of cash from her teaching stint, One Valenzuela said "Libre ko kayo ng lunch!" to hubby and Little One Valenzuela. Hubby has been picking up the tab lately and so One Valenzuela thought that it was now her turn to take him out. 

Mmm, where to eat? One Valenzuela was eager to eat at Little Beijing Chinese Cuisine, a newly opened restaurant near SM Center Valenzuela. The place has been open for about a month now.

By lunch time, the parking space in front of the restaurant is already a bit full. 

The store's interior is tastefully done. The interplay of ambient lighting and the earthly colors of the walls and fixtures gives a relaxing atmosphere (much like a spa in a way). Well, who wouldn't want to chill while eating good food? 

Look at those pretty earthly shades.

Little One Valenzuela said "Ma, their comfort room smells good!". And it's clean too.  

Checking out the menu, Little Beijing Chinese Cuisine offers a variety of hot soup, dimsum, noodles, congee, rice toppings, seafood, vegetable, meat and chicken dishes. The prices range from Php65 (dimsum) to Php400 (for sharing). Little One Valenzuela was looking for dessert but then they do not have it on the menu. 

Hubby initially ordered Steamed Lapu-lapu while One Valenzuela wanted to try their Camaron Rebusado (Because she loves that dish so much! She will ask for it in any Chinese restaurant.). Sadly, these were not available on that day. Awww. After a while, the group settled for Salt and Pepper Shrimps, Chopsuey, and Chinese Chorizo Fried Rice. They also ordered Shark's Fin Dumpling and Tausi Spareribs.

Complimentary tea is given as you wait for your order.

The food quickly arrived on the table.

The chopsuey (Php150) got lots of liver, shrimp, and several kinds of mushroom. The vegetables are crisp.

One Valenzuela also ate the shell of the Salt and Pepper Shrimp (Php270). ^_^

Tausi Spareribs (Php70): very tender meat! 

Little One Valenzuela ordered Shark's Fin Dumpling (Php70). She finished it in a matter of minutes. 

The group had a lovely lunch at Little Beijing Chinese Cuisine. When One Valenzuela asked hubby on what is his verdict, he said "Masarap naman lahat eh!" (Everything tasted delicious!). Since there are still a lot of dishes to try on the menu, a second food trip is well on its way. One Valenzuela is hopeful that the somewhat elusive Lapu-lapu and Camaron Rebusado will be available on their next visit.

First Valenzuela City Auto Show

One Valenzuela thought that she would not make it to the Auto Show held at the City Hall grounds. Lo and behold! The bus she rode from her teaching stint was fast enough for her to see the event. The cars were really, really cool! Here are some of the sights and scenes from the said activity.

One Valenzuela enjoyed checking out the cool automobiles. Even the city's fire truck is awesome and pogi! Until the next auto show, Valenzuelanos!

One Valenzuela's having fun tasting milk teas from various stores here in the city. Together with her family, she tried out some of the variants offered by Tea 101, a newly opened branch at SM Center Valenzuela.

Other than their Milk Tea series, Tea 101 also has their Choco Craze series, Rock Salt and Cheese series, Heal-Tea series, Iced Slush series, Fruit Tea series, and Taiwan Favorites. 

Tea 101's drinks come in various sizes: regular, tall, skyscraper, and empire. Prices start at Php55.00 up to Php125.00. Want something to chew on while sipping your drink? Tea 101 also has sinkers such as pearls, grass jelly, egg pudding, QQ jelly, nata crystals, aloe vera, rock salt and cheese, and lychee nata. Additional sinkers cost Php20.00 to Php30.00.

Though Tea 101 is not along the main halls of the mall, One Valenzuela saw groups of people going to the store to have some of the milk tea bestsellers. Valenzuelanos know it when something is really good!

One Valenzuela has to say that she has been at Tea 101 on many occasions to have some more of their milk tea. Some variants on the menu are really interesting. One Valenzuela believes she will be back here to try out their Rock Salt and Cheese series.
