Jeepney Market Karuhatan Opens Today, November 15

One Valenzuela and the brood happened to pass by Jeepney Market Karuhatan early this morning. If her memory serves her right, it was once an old hardware store in the 1990s. After many years of just being a vacant lot, here comes a new spot to dine, do some groceries, and shop.

One Valenzuela Travels: Off to Baguio (Part 2)

Where to Stay at the Summer Capital of the Philippines:

One Valenzuela was able to buy a discounted reservation with Baguio Burnham Suites during the Travel Expo earlier this year at the SMX Convention Center. Strategically located near Burnham Park, this hotel is nestled in front of the Orchidarium and just near the Biking Grounds (Hooray for Little One Valenzuela!).

One Valenzuela and her family arrived at the hotel very early, at around 5:30 am. Since no room was available then, they just left their bags at the luggage area and ate at Good Taste Restaurant for that much needed big breakfast. Afterwards off they went to Mines View Park and Good Shepherd. After a tiring but happy walk at the park and now carrying heavy ube bottles, they again arrived at the hotel and  were able to check in as early as 11:00 in the morning though the official check-in time is still at 2:00 pm.

De Luxe Studio Type Room with Twin Beds
The family got Room 213. The room is sufficient in size for a group of 3 to 4 persons and is clean according to the family’s modest standards. It has a built in cabinet and a small refrigerator. The beds are comfortable and the family snored their night away after exploring this beautiful city. The comfort room is quite big too and has the necessary essentials for a good bath. The room does not have a park view but it was quite fine with the group.

Room Counter. WiFi signal is quite strong in this area compared to other spots in the room.
The hotel staff was very warm to the family’s requests regarding their luggage concerns and directions on how to commute in the city. On the other hand, One Valenzuela was not able to try the hotel’s buffet breakfast as it was not included in the reservation that they got. They simply dined out most of the time, trying the recommended restaurants on Tripadvisor and by popular blogger “X, Find Good Baguio Foods” (who responded to One Valenzuela’s questions promptly. Salamat, X!)

The family had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Will consider another night here when another Baguio travel opportunity arrives.

Special mention: Thank you Emily of Baguio Burnham Suites for being accommodating!

Other Possible Places to Stay:
You may also consider Eurotel which is located just beside the Café by the Ruins and is also a few meters away from Good Taste Restaurant. While walking, hubby and One Valenzuela saw that they have this promo of Php800/person (minimum of 2 persons), buffet breakfast included.  One Valenzuela stayed here before, the room they got is quite small but it does not matter that much since she spent her day mostly outside the hotel.

A relative of One Valenzuela who also frequents Baguio City because of her daughter who studies there suggested Prime Hotel which is strategically located along Session Road.  She said “…sa may Prime Hotel accessible, walking distance papuntang Burnham Park at one ride papunta ng Mines View. Walking distance sa market. May free breakfast for two at may fast food sa baba...“. Upon inquiry, One Valenzuela learned that an overnight stay will cost Php2,000 to Php2,500, inclusive of plated breakfast.

By the way, if you plan to visit Baguio during the Panagbenga Festival, make sure to have your hotel reservations early. And also be prepared with the volume of people during that period.

A Letter from the Mayor: Valenzuela City Ranking Achievement

After a good morning at the market, One Valenzuela arrived with heavy bags of raw food for cooking. She chanced upon a white envelope on their doorstep, much like how the Valenzuela Ngayon magazine came to their home.

She appreciates such moves of information dissemination since not all residents are that techie. Or into knowing more about the city. Here are a few paragraphs from the said letter:

Mayor Rex begins his letter with "Sa mga mahal kong Valenzuelano"

It details about Valenzuela's ranking. The city ranked 9 among the more than a hundred cities in the whole country.

Overall Rankings (2014) attachment which can also be viewed at the National Competitiveness Council website.
Information about the said ranking achievement can also be seen posted on community bulletin boards in the city and on the official Facebook page of Valenzuela City.

With that good news, well, One Valenzuela's morning even got better. Proud to be a Valenzuelano.
Also got the letter, ka-Valenzuelano?
Post a line or two at the Comments Section. Happy to hear from you.

Dexter visits De La Salle Araneta Veterinary Teaching Hospital

Everything went fine last weekend. Come Monday morning, Little One Valenzuela alarmed One Valenzuela about Dexter's condition. "He has a swollen face, Ma!" Upon further inspection, One Valenzuela noticed that there was a small mass just below his mandibles. Hay, great news to start the week!

Quickly searching the internet, One Valenzuela has narrowed it down to a few possibilities: (1) he might have been bitten by an insect (Mmm, maybe a cockroach? This mini pinscher loooves to surprise his furparents with "cute presents"); or (2) a tooth abscess.

One Valenzuela really wanted to bring Dexter Boy to U.P. Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Quezon City since Bell had wonderful results after her bout with ehrlichiosis. She had more time on hand then since it was summer. Now, One Valenzuela could barely relax even in the evening! So many things to do, so little time. Ugh.

Dexter Boy
Good thing, she was always in search of nearby veterinary clinics and hospitals. Well, the list she made came very handy this time around. She chose to bring this poor furkid to the De La Salle Araneta Veterinary Teaching Hospital located at Victoneta Avenue, Malabon in the afternoon.
It says here that the Veterinary Hospital was completed in 2011.
Up we go
After noting this furkid's general condition, appetite, and weight, they were ushered to one of the rooms. Dexter's body was checked and the resident veterinarian, Dr. Ortiz, noticed the now soft skin which seemed to dangle at Dexter's neck. The inflammation has somewhat subsided. Thus, he told One Valenzuela to observe Dexter in the next three days. He also prescribed prednisone for Dexter's condition. (Note: One Valenzuela recommends pet owners to seek the advise of the veterinarian on what medicine should be administered to your pet.)

The cat and dog are looking at the...
...door of the hospital!
Vision and mission of the veterinary hospital
One Valenzuela and Dexter met this cute puppy. Hello!
How much did the check up cost? One Valenzuela shelled out Php250.00 plus Php15.00 for the tablets. They will have to go back to the hospital if Dexter's condition worsens.

Still macho with the pink collar. Thanks, Bell!
Praying for the better.
Update: Dexter is back in his old healthy self. Alive, jumping, and licking!
How to reach the De La Salle Araneta Veterinary Teaching Hospital:
From Malinta, ride any jeepney going to Monumento, Caloocan City (signages: Monumento Circle, Recto, Pier, Divisoria,etc.). Go down at Victoneta Avenue (It is the next street after Pet Discount. You will see a store which sells dog food and chicken feeds at its corner.)

Walk a bit more along Victoneta Avenue and you will see a jeepney terminal which will take you to De La Salle Araneta University. Tell Manong to drop you at the "De La Salle Veterinary".
A short ride along Victoneta Avenue to see the vet. It costs Php8.00 as of this writing.
